Trump: "It Is What It Is" |
They Couldn't Win By Lying And Cheating

America is suffering from a deadly, virulent disease that's destroying the nation. Life-support systems are failing, and drafts of our obituary are being written by historians. As commonly happens, our death will come after decades of ignoring the institutional decay until it's too late to treat. We even know the probable date of our impending death, November 5, 2024, the date of our next presidential election. While the immediate cause of death will be massive blunt-force trauma from a head-on collision with reality, the actual cause will be fear. On our last day, we'll be 248 years, 4 months and 2 days old. We've deteriorated into a caste system of unequal laws and rights, depending on address, gender, and bank balance. The rule of law is manipulated by a partisan Supreme Court to favor and exempt those at the highest levels of government, religion and wealth, under the guise of 'religious freedom'. The full force of the rule of law, however, is rigorously applied to all others, frequently and brutally targeting minorities, women, and the poor. Fear is dominant in controlling people, and religions have centuries of experience using fear to establish themselves. They fire up their adherants with threats to their 'everlasting' existance, while making fantastical claims of Trump being chosen by their god to lead America. This major failing of traditional churches is symptomatic of our decay, with organized religions pursuing a theocratic replacement of our Constitution, and the GOP paving their path with favorable Supreme Court religious decisions as payment for their votes. Fear drives the right-wing extremists to action: fear of repressive government, fear of minorities replacing them, fear of conspiracies, and a host of fears instilled throughout a lifetime of religious indoctrination. Fear also makes many people do nothing to save themselves, relying instead on institutions, such as our courts, to protect them, even though our court system is designed primarily for retribution, not protection for ordinary citizens. On the left, we fear violent anti-democracy groups and the domestic terrorism they promote to control political power, and we fear religious extremists replacing our laws with their religious beliefs. We fear the loss of our human rights when churches decide what those rights are, and we fear the greed and corruption by businesses and politicians causing disastrous climate changes for profit. We fear the Christian need for 'God's army' to fight a war with opposing religions, and we fear the violent intolerance by white people of those who look different. We fought a disastrous Civil War once before, with more than 700,000 deaths, to forcibly hold together a nation hopelessly divided over enslaving human beings. While it was a victory for those believing in human rights, the racism woven through the fabric of American society after that never ended. Today, it manifests itself as voting restrictions, police brutality, and economic segregation to deny Blacks their full rights as American citizens. Governmental control of women's bodies, whereby religious doctrine supercedes women's rights to privacy concerning personal and medical reproductive decisions, also violates human rights. Just as owning human beings is offensive and unacceptable in a civilized society, so is the denial of women's rights to control their own bodies and futures. No one has the inherent right to mandate adherance to religious beliefs over human rights, nor can they deny others their freedom of choice. Equally divisive is the effort by the right-wing to remake America into a theocracy ruled by white Christians, with laws based on their bible instead of our Constitution. This is in direct opposition to the founding belief that our government is secular and separate from relgious intervention, allowing all religious and non-religious peoples to freely exist without fear of discrimination due to their beliefs. This protection also extends to the taxpayer, who cannot be required to financially support any faith-based organization or church through their taxes ... a right also under intense assault by theocrats, as they attempt to access those monies to benefit their particular religious organizations. Secession Or Civil War? This effort at establishing a theocratic government is blatantly unconstitutional, and by itself is a valid argument for forming a new nation based on secular laws, as our founding fathers envisioned and attempted to create. However, there's no need to follow violent history down that same path again, given the scale of interest in secession by states on both sides - we simply need to agree to dissolve our bonds and reform as two separate nations of secular Democrats and theocratic Confederates, based on common needs and beliefs. Like all married couples, we originally formed a union we hoped would succeed, but after discovering they were intolerably different in basic beliefs, they end their marriage, and so should we also seek to peacefully become two separate entities. Contact your US Senators and Congressmen, Governor, and State Senators and Representatives, and tell them that a theocratic government is unacceptable, to support the secession of any state requesting it, and to consider such a plan for their own state as well. We can have national divorce without a war if we all agree to allow those states to leave the Union (Texas v White, 1869), or we can become embroiled in another civil war with existential consequences.
Democratic states want the Trumpist states to leave as bad as the Trumpist states want to leave, so this time there's no need for a war.
We can find solutions that preserve some aspects of the union, such as free commerce and travel, and it would make us stronger in the end to control our own future,
instead of remaining a divided nation with no hope for settlement of our differences without violence.
